چکیده

Additive manufacturing, in particular powder bed-based fabrication processes hold promise to revolutionize biomedical engineering for the ability provide customized, functional implants, example as bone replacement materials. However, providing particles that unify material requirements biodegradable and bioactive biomaterials process enable successful bed fusion remains an unmet challenge. Here, a supraparticle-based approach create poly(lactic acid) composite powders additive manufacturing of materials is introduced. Colloidal binary Ca-SiO2 glasses hydroxyapatite are incorporated additives support formation bone-like calcium phosphate. The supraparticle prepared by scalable spray-drying process, which offers control particle size, shape, composition. All process-relevant characteristics analyzed function composition structure, including flowability, thermal, melt rheological properties. optimized successfully used laser polymers prepare macroscopic specimens via manufacturing. It demonstrated combination composites provides relevant properties, biodegradation bioactivity. flexible adjustable toolbox design toward

Characterization of Metal Powders Used for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM) techniques can produce complex, high-value metal parts, with potential applications as critical parts, such as those found in aerospace components. The production of AM parts with consistent and predictable properties requires input materials (e.g., metal powders) with known and repeatable characteristics, which in turn requires standardized measurement methods for p...

Biodegradable polylactide/montmorillonite nanocomposites.

Our continuing research on the preparation, characterization, materials properties, and biodegradability of polylactide (PLA)/organically modified layered silicate (OMLS) nanocomposites has yielded results on PLA/montmorillonite nanocomposites. Montmorillonite (mmt) modified with dimethyldioctadecylammonium cation was used as an OMLS for nanocomposite preparation. The internal structure of nano...

Next-generation biomedical implants using additive manufacturing of complex, cellular and functional mesh arrays.

In this paper, we examine prospects for the manufacture of patient-specific biomedical implants replacing hard tissues (bone), particularly knee and hip stems and large bone (femoral) intramedullary rods, using additive manufacturing (AM) by electron beam melting (EBM). Of particular interest is the fabrication of complex functional (biocompatible) mesh arrays. Mesh elements or unit cells can b...
